Floyd County Supervisors Tackle Credit Cards Issues Again

For the second straight week, the Floyd County Board of Supervisors dealt with violations of County credit card charges.

During their regular meeting Monday (05.22), Supervisors heard from Sheriff Jeff Crooks about an order for which sales tax was assessed even though the County is to be tax-exempt for such purchases. During their meeting May 15th, Conservation Director Adam Sears had to explain a similar situation.

Also on May 15th, Environmental Health Director Jeff Sherman was questioned about multiple instances of using the County credit card for personal purchases, even though Sherman said he grabbed the County card by mistake and he had reimbursement checks written to the County when he submitted his expense report.

County Auditor Gloria Carr noted that while were honest mistakes, they do have to be properly documented.

Supervisor Chair Mark Kuhn said ultimately, the Board is responsible for proper use of County credit cards.

Crooks and Sears were issued formal warnings for their credit card issues that were somewhat out of their control, while being urgred to monitor those charges closer in the future. Sherman’s use of County credit cards has been suspended for six months.
