Former North Iowa Priest Accused Again of Sexual Abuse of Minor

A priest who formerly served at more than a dozen north Iowa churches in the 1980s and 90s has been accused again of sexual abuse of a minor.

A news release from the Archdiocese of Dubuque says Father Leo Riley has been placed on administrative leave while a review board investigates the allegation. Father Riley has been a priest in Florida since 2002 and has been accused of sexual abuse of a minor while he was serving as a priest at a Dubuque parish in the mid 1980s.

Radio Iowa’s O. Kay Henderson reports it’s not the first such allegation against Father Riley.

Riley has been pastor of the San Antonio Church in Port Charlotte, Florida since 2019.

According to the website www.bishop-accountability.org, Father Riley’s assignment history includes Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City from 1986 to 1990. From 1982 through 1999, he also served at St. Joseph in Cresco, Holy Cross in Schley, St. Mary in Roseville, St. Patrick in Buffalo Center, Sacred Heart in Woden,  St. James in Forest City, St. Patrick in Lake Mills, St. Peter in Clermont, St. Bridget in Postville, St. Patrick in Dougherty, Holy Name in Rockford, and Sacred Heart in Rockwell.
