Future Look of Lions Field Swimming Pool in Charles City Still Unclear

While a new swimming pool isn’t coming anytime soon to Lions Field in Charles City, a new look is on the horizon. What that new look will look like is still undecided.

The Park Rec Board heard from JEO Consulting last week about possible amenities to add to the pool in light of not building a new pool. Parks and Recreation Director Tyler Mitchell says JEO is slated to come back next month with cost estimates to help the Board decide what enhancements they can add to the current pool.

Mitchell says amenities that could be added include a rock climbing wall, Ninja Warrior course, floating objects to climb on, new play features for younger kids including toddlers, and a splash pad.

Whichever amenities the Park-Rec Board chooses, they won’t be added for this swimming season, which Mitchell says should begin next week.

Mitchell adds that, unfortunately, they only have enough lifeguards right now to have the pool open five days a week. He says anyone over 15 can apply and the City will pay half the cost of CPR certification training. Contact the City for more information.
