New Hampton’s Carlee Rochford is the state champion in the Girls Class 2A long jump.
Rochford won the title Thursday at the State Track and Field Championships in Des Moines on her final jump, which she says was inspired by her late grandfather.
Rochford said she didn’t initially realize that she had the winning jump. At first glance, she thought she had jumped only 17-feet one-inch when in fact her winning distance was 17-feet 10 inches.
