Charles City Needs More Smart Home Participants

A pilot program in Charles City still needs more participants.

City Administrator Steve Diers says they’re looking for senior residents to take advantage of the Smart Home Project, made possible through a grant of $100,000 from AARP.

Mayor Dean Andrews says they’ve got enough Smart equipment available to accommodate another half-dozen Charles City homes.

Those who participate will get the Smart equipment in their home for free for a three-year period. After that, they can decide whether to keep the service at their cost or have the equipment removed.

Charles City was selected for the first Smart Home pilot project after it was designated as AARP’s first rural age-friendly community in Iowa.
