Charles City’s Pure Prairie Poultry Begins Expansion

Six months after they began operations, construction is underway at Pure Prairie Poultry (PPP) in Charles City to expand the capabilities of the chicken processing operations.

That’s PPP CEO Brian Roelofs, who says the distribution center is targeted for completion by October. Just to the north of that, they’ll add another 6,000 square feet for office space and a new break room, with construction in 2024.

Roelofs says they’re also planning to expand on their current chicken processing hours.

Expansion for the facility has been aided by an almost $7 million grant from the United States Department of Agriculture, plus a $2.3 million dollar training grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority. PPP also received an almost $39 million USDA-backed loan designed to invest in smaller agriculture manufacturers.
