The City of Nashua continues to work towards forming its own ambulance service.
After Nashua opted not to be a part of the new public ambulance service of Chickasaw County, the City set out on its own. However, they were faced with having no official ambulance provider in the meantime. Thus, they agreed to pay the City of Charles City and Floyd County a combined $10,000 to have their private provider, AMR Ambulance, serve Nashua from January 1 to June 30th of this year.
Nashua City Clerk John Ott told a recent meeting of the Charles City/Floyd County Ambulance Commission that things are progressing well in the development of their new ambulance service.
Ott says getting their ambulance together has been a group effort.
Ott says they have six EMTs, two paramedics, about 10 drivers and some 25 volunteers to help run the Nashua ambulance. However, he says that still won’t be enough to provide service 24-7. Thus, the City wants to continue their partnership with Charles City and Floyd County to help fill in gaps in coverage.
