2022 Northeast Iowa Active Shooter Report Came from Canada

A report last spring of an active shooter at a store in northeast Iowa appears to have come from outside the country.

On May 16, 2022, the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office, Decorah Police Department, and Iowa State Patrol responded to a report of an active shooter at Walmart in Decorah. The call was determined to be a false report and there was no threat located or detected.

Since the time of that call, the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office has continued to investigate the incident and recently identified the account holder of the caller and confirmed that the call originated from Canada. As a result of the information obtained, this case has been turned over to the FBI.
