CCPD’s Luft Honored as Scheel’s Hometown Hero

Lilly Luft isn’t the only member of the Luft family getting special recognition this week.

Wednesday (03.01), Lilly Luft was named Dan Gable Ms. Wrestler of the Year, capping off a high school career that included three straight state titles. Now, her dad, Charles City Police Officer Lenny Luft, has been named a Scheel’s Hometown Hero, honoring men and women who have served their country and continue to serve their community.

After serving in the Army, Lenny Luft went into law enforcement including the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s and, since January of 2001, with the CCPD.

In July 2017, Luft and his wife Wendy lost their son, Logan, who died in a hunting accident.  In the Hometown Heroes video, Wendy Luft describes making the decision to donate Logan’s organs.

That decision also led Lenny Luft to make a push to honor their son.

Charles City attorney Todd Prichard was a state representative at the time the legislation passed by a unanimous vote.
