Schools Look to Make Early Calls on Delays, Postponements Due to Weather

Most area schools have called off classes Wednesday (02.22) in anticipation of a winter storm predicted to bring several inches of snow as well as sleet and freezing rain.

For many, that call was made Tuesday night, including Charles City Schools, which notified parents by 7 pm.

That’s CCCSD Superintendent Dr. Anne Lundquist, who also notes that when they can’t make a decision on school delays or closures the night before, they’ll get up early the day of to assess the situation.

Lundquist adds that having school start late is ideal so they can still get a day of classes in, but sometimes canceling for the day is unavoidable.

Most school districts factor in “snow days” into their academic calendar for cushion that still allows classes to wrap up at the school year as scheduled in the spring.
