Patricia “Pat” Nelson, 81, Charles City

Patricia “Pat” Nelson, 81, of Charles City, passed away Friday, December 9, 2022, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30a.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Russ Leeper officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 16, 2022, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home and continue one hour prior to the start of the service on Saturday at the church.

Patricia Irene (Townsend) Nelson, the daughter of Marvin and Doris (Rademacher) Townsend, was born on January 13, 1941, in Charles City. She graduated from Floyd High School in 1958. While in high school she was a majorette and played basketball. She then attended NIACC for two years. On June 22, 1959, Pat was united in marriage to Glen R. Nelson in Belleview, Illinois. To this union three children were born: David, Tony, and Mary. Pat and Glen were also foster parents to many children.

Pat was an insurance agent for different offices including Mutual Funds, Ozark National Life, and NIS Financial Service. She also owned and operated Highway Café for 14 years. Pat was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and Women of Moose. Pat loved to crochet, play card games, and solve word puzzles. She was a loving mother and grandmother and was always there for her family when they needed her.

Living family members include her son, David of Marble Rock; son, Tony of Charles City; daughter, Mary of Charles City; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and brother, Terry (Norma) Townsend.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen; parents; and great-grandson, Tony Ross.

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City, which basically means he’s been corn‑fed and radio‑bred since day one. As a kid, he was always caught singing along to the radio — and while he’ll tell you he’s great at karaoke, let’s just say the audience’s ears often file a noise complaint. When he’s not busy butchering ‘80s power ballads, Chris enjoys starting overly ambitious home projects that rarely make it past the “great idea” stage. He lives in Charles City with his endlessly patient wife Vicki and their kids, Brynlee and Jaxon, who have already perfected the art of the eye‑roll every time Dad cracks another “dad joke.”
