Staff Reductions Considered by Charles City School Board Monday Night

The Charles City School Board will consider staff reductions in an effort to cut over $750,000 from the school budget when they meet in regular session Monday night (12.12).

Budget cuts are necessary following an enrollment report by Superintendent Dr. Anne Lundquist during the October 25th Board meeting.

Dr. Lundquist issued a statement via the school district Facebook page Friday saying the School Board will have three staff reduction plans to review with possible approval of one of those plans during their meeting Monday night.

Her post also says, “I wish these reductions were not necessary, but unfortunately, with our drop in enrollment, they are. It is my hope that as we continue our efforts to further improve our programs and facilities, we will attract additional students in the coming years. This would increase our overall budget, which is provided through state “per pupil” allowances, and further enhance our spending authority.”

Among the highlights of the three staff reduction plans, Option 1 calls for the elimination of two music teachers;  Option 2 would reduce one music teacher and one English teacher at the High School; and  Option 3 would cut one music teacher and the assistant principal at the High School.

The Charles City School Board meeting starts at 6:15 p.m. Monday in the High School Library.
