Lamb Checkoff Funds Research To Improve Flock Productivity

The American Lamb Board is investing national checkoff dollars directly into research aimed at improving flock health, genetics, and overall lamb quality.

For livestock producers here in Iowa and across the country, boosting consumer demand is only half the battle—controlling costs and raising productivity are just as critical. Through these science-based projects, the checkoff program is developing practical tools to refine management strategies, boost growth and survival traits, and reduce costly parasite and disease losses. Researchers are also connecting farm-level breeding decisions directly to carcass performance and consistent meat quality.

By turning these findings into actionable tools, the goal is clear: help American sheep operations lower overhead, maximize profitability, and stay competitive in today’s agricultural marketplace.
