About three months after he was hired, a new officer will officially join the New Hampton Police Department (NHPD) staff this weekend.
The City Council approved the hiring of Adalberto (Berto) Uribe Vasquez as a full-time uncertified officer in July. However, issues with his vision prevented him from starting right away, but Police Chief Conrad Rosendahl says “Berto’s” vision has been corrected and he will begin work this Sunday (Oct. 18).
Rosendahl says the next step for Uribe Vasquez to advance towards becoming a certified officer includes the field officer physical training program.
Once Uribe Vasquez enters the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA), it will take about 12 weeks for graduation.
Rosendahl notes that bringing Berto on board will give the NHPD a full staff for the third time since he took over as Chief in July 2024.
Among the NHPD’s recent hires is Kassidi Havens, who started on June 14th and just passed her four-month anniversary on Wednesday (Oct. 14).
It will be a year ago in November that Officer Lucas Kleckner joined the NHPD and who is the now handler for the NHPD’s K9 Ozkar.
