Visitation Monday (Oct. 12) for Former NHTV Schools Superintendent Jurrens

Visitation is set for this Monday (Oct. 12) for a former, longtime New Hampton Schools Superintendent who passed away last weekend.

According to the obituary from Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home, Jay Jurrens “graduated from life” October 3rd after a “two-year showdown with blood cancer.” Jurrens was superintendent of New Hampton Schools for 13 years before he retired in June 2025. He was also shared superintendent for Turkey Valley Schools for the last eight years of his career.

In September 2024, when he announced his retirement, he told KCHA/KCZE he looked back fondly at his time in education.

Jurrens had battled health issues prior to announcing his retirement, but said that did not factor into his decision. He said it was something he and his wife, Deb, had begun discussing about a year earlier.

Jurrens was 61.

Friends may greet the family from 4 to 7 PM on Monday at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in New Hampton.
