Plane Crashes Into Northeast Iowa Home, Pilot Escapes with Minor Injuries

The pilot was injured after he crashed his ultralight aircraft into a northeast Iowa residence over the weekend.
The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office says multiple 911 calls reported the wreck at about 6 pm Saturday (Oct. 3) night. Authorities arrived to find the aircraft, which had been trying to take off from the Abel Island Airport when it lost control. The plane struck power lines in the area before crashing onto the roof of a house near Guttenberg.
The pilot and sole occupant of the plane, 75-year-old Gary Fisher of Monticello, received minor injuries. There were no reported injuries on the ground and it is not known if the home was occupied at the time of the wreck.
Sheriff Brent W. Ostrander says the crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office, the FAA, and the NTSB.
Also assisting at the scene were the Guttenberg Fire and Police Departments, Guttenberg Ambulance Service, and Alliant Energy.
