Pickups Collide Head-On in North Iowa, Both Drivers Injured

Both drivers were hurt in a head-on, two-pickup weekend crash in western Floyd County.
The Iowa State Patrol (ISP) says the wreck happened shortly before 7 PM Saturday (Oct. 3) on Highway 18, between Echo Avenue and Foothill Avenue, just west of Rudd. ISP says 42-year-old Bruce Ohern Jr. of Mason City, was driving a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 eastbound when he lost control of the pickup, which crossed the median and struck a westbound 2017 Ford F350 head-on.
ISP says the Ford, driven by 45-year-old Timothy Dodd of Bowling Green, Missouri, went into the north ditch where its trailer overturned and the truck caught fire. The Dodge came to rest in the westbound lanes.
Ohern was pulled from his truck by local fire departments. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and were taken to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City for treatment. Ohern was transported by AMR ambulance and Dodd was transported by Nora Springs ambulance.
The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, Floyd County Search and Rescue, the Nora Springs and Rudd fire departments, and Lake Towing also helped at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
