Heavy Rain Keeping Harvest at a Halt?

Heavy rain from the remnants of Hurricane Polo has interrupted corn and soybean harvesting across Iowa, triggering National Weather Service flood warnings and advisories in several areas.

While similar saturated field conditions are slowing fieldwork across neighboring Midwest states such as Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, and Illinois relief is in sight for local producers. Forecasters expected a drier weather pattern to take hold across the region by yesterday October 5th, allowing Iowa farmers to safely get back into their fields and resume harvest operations.

However, if you were driving anywhere in Iowa over the weekend, it was shocking if you didn’t see a farmer in the field combining beans, chopping silage, or harvesting corn. Let’s hope the farmers can keep rolling without any more hiccups to set them back.
