Charles City Officially Designated Home Base Iowa Community

Charles City is now officially a Home Base Iowa community.

Home Base Iowa Communities is a statewide initiative designed to integrate service veterans into the workforce, and offers incentives for veterans who move to the community.

During a public ceremony Thursday (Oct. 1) morning at City Hall, Home Base Iowa program manager Robert Heage observed the designation.

Floyd County has been a Home Base Iowa Community since 2014, but Charles City was not, until Thursday; contrary to the popular belief noted by Charles City Mayor Dean Andrews.

Each Home Base Iowa Community can offer their own incentives for  veterans to move into their community. Floyd County Supervisor Gloria Carr touted the County’s $10,000, zero-interest loan, repayable over 60 months, to qualified veterans for purchasing a home.

Carr proposed the County and City work together to enhance other incentives to veterans.

As for those Floyd County loans, to date, the Charles City Area Development Corporation (CCADC) has processed seven successful loan packages for veterans.
