City Council Approves Jendro Sanitation Rate Increase for Charles City October 1st

Garbage and recycling rates are officially set to go up in Charles City.

During their meeting Monday (Sept. 21) night, the City Council debated a proposed 3% rate increase request by Jendro Sanitation and whether it should be a weighted increase versus a flat across-the-board increase, an approach favored by Council Phillip Knighten.

Councilwoman Krista Noah lobbied for a rate approach that encourages less garbage.

Weighted or flat, Councilwoman Phoebe Pittman used fitting language in urging consistency moving forward.

In the end, the Council approved a flat 3% across-the-board increase for all rates that will take effect October 1st and will be reflected on customers’ first bills in November.
