Construction Season Closer to a Close, But Still Lots of Activity in Floyd County

While road construction season is getting shorter, there’s still plenty of work going on in Floyd County.

County Engineer Adam Miller says one of their bigger projects moves into its next phase this week, with crews to start paving Packard Avenue, from County Road B60, about 10 miles south of Charles City, to Highway 14 just west of the Floyd County Fairgrounds.

Miller says that work will impact access to the Floyd County Solid Waste Collection site, but you can still get there —- most of the time.

Miller says they’ll post updates at Floyd County Iowa Engineer/Secondary Roads on Facebook.

Miller says asphalt patching also continues across the county, with work coming between Charles City and Nashua near the Avenue of the Saints.

Miller  adds that they hope to have those “stubs” done before winter.

He also notes that Glass Avenue, between 227th and 230th Street, remains closed for perhaps another month as they wait for new culverts to be built to replace the wooden box culvert that collapsed under the weight of a maintenance grader on August 17th.

Miller said the culvert failed due to age. The grader operator was not hurt.
