Floyd County Medical Center Sets Groundbreaking Date for Phase II of Hospital Expansion

It was about a month-and-a-half ago that Floyd County Medical Center held a ribbon cutting to show off its $40 million expansion of the Charles City hospital that includes a new three-story rural health clinic.
FCMC has now set October 1st for the groundbreaking to mark the start of Phase II of construction that will include five new operating rooms, a new cafeteria and kitchen, and new materials management department.
In a social media post, FCMC says the estimated completion date of Phase II spans the end of 2028 to the beginning of 2029. Phase III, which will encompass the Stille Cancer Center, will begin construction next year and will have its own groundbreaking celebration sometime in 2027.
The Phase II groundbreaking at 4 PM October 1st in Charles City will feature remarks from community and organizational leaders, renderings of the new addition, and light refreshments.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development (USDA) has approved a $27.5 million loan for the Phase II expansion through the Rural Development’s Community Facilities Direct Loan & Grant Program.
In addition to the USDA loan, FCMC will contribute $4 million in equity and $8 million in commercial lending. The total cost of the Phase II project is estimated at $39.5 million.
