Floyd County Medical Center Celebrates Grand Opening of New Rural Health Clinic, Marks Major Expansion Milestone

A project years in the making officially became reality Saturday (7/18/26) morning as Floyd County Medical Center celebrated the grand opening of its new three-story Rural Health Clinic.
Hundreds gathered outside the new facility for the ribbon cutting ceremony before taking self-guided tours of the building. Hospital leaders, employees, board members, elected officials and community supporters celebrated the completion of Phase 1 of what will eventually become a multi-phase expansion designed to serve patients throughout Floyd County and northeast Iowa.
Speakers throughout the ceremony shared a common message. While the new building is impressive, the project is ultimately about making sure quality healthcare remains available close to home for years to come.

Watch the Official Ribbon Cutting
The moment everyone had been waiting for came as Floyd County Medical Center CEO Dawnett Willis joined hospital leaders and community partners to officially cut the ribbon on the new facility.
CEO Dawnett Willis told those in attendance the project represents years of planning, teamwork and commitment from the Board of Trustees, hospital employees, physicians, community partners and supporters. She also reminded the audience that Saturday’s celebration is not the finish line. Planning is already underway for the next phases of the expansion.

Following the ceremony, visitors had the opportunity to tour the new Rural Health Clinic and see firsthand the improvements that will enhance patient care for years to come.
Joanne Starr Reflects on 25 Years at Floyd County Medical Center
Joanne Starr has watched Floyd County Medical Center grow firsthand.
During her conversation with KCHA’s Kay Winkelman, Starr reflected on beginning her career 25 years ago in what she described as a clinic housed in what was essentially a double-wide trailer. Since then, she has watched the organization continue to grow while maintaining its commitment to caring for patients and their families.
She also talked about moving into the new clinic later this summer and what patients can expect as providers transition into the new building.
Looking Ahead
Although Saturday marked the completion of Phase 1, hospital leaders say the work is far from finished.
Plans are already in place for future phases that will include expanded surgical services, a new cafeteria and kitchen, additional materials management space and, eventually, the Stille Cancer Center.
Board Chairman Ron James discussed the years of planning behind the project, why the expansion was needed and what comes next for Floyd County Medical Center.
Saturday’s celebration marked one of the largest milestones in Floyd County Medical Center’s history, but hospital leaders say it is also the beginning of the next chapter as they continue investing in healthcare for Charles City, Floyd County and the surrounding communities.
