Wednesday (07.01) Marks 21st Anniversary of Evelyn Miller Murder, Killer Now Back in Iowa Prison

July 1st marks the 21st anniversary of the murder of a five-year-old north Iowa girl.
Evelyn Miller disappeared from her mother’s apartment in Floyd on July 1, 2005. Her body was found five days later along the Cedar River in Charles City, about one mile from the apartment.
Seven years later, the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) and the Iowa DCI brought charges against Casey Frederiksen, live-in boyfriend of the girl’s mother, Noel Miller. A medical examiner determined the young girl was stabbed in the neck and there was evidence of sexual assault.
At the time, Frederiksen was serving time in federal prison on drug and child porn charges. In 2015, a Hamilton County jury found him guilty of first-degree murder and first-degree sexual abuse of Evelyn Miller, both Class A felonies.
Floyd County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Deputy Travis Bartz took the initial lead in the investigation.
Bartz says it was a tragedy that impacted the entire community.
Last week, the 47-year-old Frederiksen was returned to Iowa from federal prison in Arizona and was being held in the Bremer County Jail in Waverly, until Bartz and retired FCSO Deputy Brian Tiedemann, who coordinated search efforts for Evelyn Miller, transported him to the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Coralville.
The Department of Corrections will next determine which prison Frederiksen will reside and serve his two consecutive life sentences for killing Evelyn Miller.
