Northeast Research Demonstration Farm Celebrates 50th Anniversary Thursday (Sept. 10)

The ISU Extension and Outreach Northeast Research and Demonstration Farm near Nashua will celebrate its 50th anniversary on Thursday (Sept. 10), with a public open house from 2 to 7 PM.
The Farm’s Terry Basol, an extension field agronomist, says groundwork for the research farm was laid 51 years ago.
Basol says the Research Farm now covers 260 acres and has become a valuable tool for farmers and the ag industry in various ways.
In addition to field tours of research projects currently in progress as well as the farm’s various heritage plots, Basol says Thursday’s event also highlights new technology.
There will also be a variety of exhibit booths and “Hot Topic” experts starting at 3 PM. The 4 PM program will feature special guest speakers that include USDA Deputy Secretary Steven Vaden and new Iowa State University President David Cook.
The 50th Anniversary Celebration also includes a free meal at 5:30 PM, but attendees are encouraged to RSVP to ensure an accurate meal count. Registration information is included with this story on our station website and at Borlaug Learning Center/NERF on Facebook.
