Ag Matters: Importing Foreign Beef Side Effects

The Trump administration has announced a new action plan aimed at cutting the cost of beef prices in the grocery stores, but the plan will no doubt negatively impact the farm economy. John Newton, the vice president of public policy and economic analysis at the American Farm Bureau Federation, says the plan calls for importing a large volume of foreign beef.

He said importing such a significant volume will negatively impact U.S. cattle ranchers and these are his takes on how it will affect those with cattle operations.

Newton said the market was already supplying incentives for producers to start the lengthy process of rebuilding their herds. However, as cattle farmers know doing so will take time, resources, financial stability, and promise in the economy.

Again that was John Newton, the vice president of public policy and economic analysis at the American Farm Bureau Federation.
