Charles City Staff to Move Back Into Remodeled, Renovated City Hall This Week

Monday (08.17) night’s 6 PM Charles City City Council meeting could be the last in the Zastrow Room of the Charles City Public Library.
The City announced, through social media, that City staff would be moving into remodeled and renovated City Hall on Monday and Tuesday (08.18). Thus, the temporary location at 507 Clark Street will be closed and staff will not be available by phone, email, or in person during these two days.
City Hall at 900 Clark Street is slated to open on Wednesday (08.19), pending completion of the move. The City thanks citizens for their patience and understanding during this transition.
The relocation comes less than a week after Council members discussed whether work by the contractor, Kingland Construction, was acceptable enough to approve “substantial completion” amid some lingering issues including poor drainage of the new concrete parking lot.
According to documentation included with the agenda packet for Monday night’s Council meeting, a certificate of “substantial completion” was approved and notarized on Friday (08.14).
With that, the Council is expected to release “retainage” of about $141,000 to Kingland, while the City will continue to hold about $103,000 in “retainage” until the final “punch list” of remaining items are completed to satisfaction.
The Council is also expected to approve the latest pay request of $295,000 to Kingland for their most recently completed work. That would bring the total amount paid for the project to about $4.9 million.
