Margaret “Maggie” Schultz, 95, of Charles City

Margaret “Maggie” Schultz, 95, of Charles City, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2026.

A funeral service for Maggie Schultz will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City with Pastor Russ Leeper officiating.  Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service at the church on Tuesday.

Margaret “Maggie” Ann (Ball) Schultz was born May 31, 1931, in Chickasaw County, Iowa the daughter of Albert and Esther (Johnson) Ball. She received her education in a rural one room, Chickasaw County school and graduated from Ionia High School in 1949.

Maggie began working for Northwestern Bell in Charles City right after graduation and transferred to Rochester Minnesota and finally Mason City after the Charles City office closed in 1977. She continued working until her retirement in 1983.

Maggie was united in marriage to John Schultz on December 29, 1956, at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. This union was blessed with one son, David.

Maggie enjoyed working in her yard (tending to her flowers and decorating for the holidays), helping John on the farm, bowling and spending time with her family and friends (a lot of this time was spent on wonderful walks together and the best times were had on the annual fishing trip to Lake of the Woods in Canada).

Living family members include her daughter-in-law, Kathy Schultz of Des Moines; niece, Judy Novak of Charles City; brother, Russell (Betty) Ball; along with other nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Maggie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John in 2016; son, David in 2017; and brother, Charles.

He lives in Charles City with his endlessly patient wife Vicki and their kids, Brynlee and Jaxon, who have already perfected the art of the eye‑roll every time Dad cracks another “dad joke.”
