Thomas William Oliver, the son of William and Myrtle (Daly) Oliver, was born April 8, 1931, in Charles City, Iowa. He received his education in Charles City, graduating with the class of 1950. After high school Tom attended NIACC for two years and continued with one year at Iowa State University.

Thomas proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953.  He was honorably discharged on March 8, 1953.  Thomas enjoyed being a beekeeper, selling barrels of honey to companies in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  He also liked to tinker with different things in his garage (especially radios) and work in his yard (riding around on his lawn tractor mower).

Thomas was united in marriage to Donna Caruth on December 28, 1971, in Cedar Falls, Iowa.  The couple made their home in Charles City, traveled throughout the United States with one another (a trip to Colorado was especially memorable) and enjoyed a wonderful life together.

Throughout his younger years, Thomas had many jobs that benefited from his strong work ethic. He was most proud of the work he did as an inspector in quality control at White Farm for 37 years before retiring on July 15, 1993.

Living family members include his wife of over 54 years, Donna of Charles City; niece, Nicole Rodriguez of Charles City; along with other family members and friends.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Darlene Benton; two nephews: Rick and Rodney Benton; and his faithful canine companion, his Collie, Fluffy.

Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home, (641) 228-2323, 1205 South Main Street, Charles City, Iowa 50616 is in charge of local arrangements.  Online condolences may be left on the Tribute Wall for the family at www.hauserfh.com.

Chris Berg

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City, which basically means he’s been corn‑fed and radio‑bred since day one. As a kid, he was always caught singing along to the radio — and while he’ll tell you he’s great at karaoke, let’s just say the audience’s ears often file a noise complaint. When he’s not busy butchering ‘80s power ballads, Chris enjoys starting overly ambitious home projects that rarely make it past the “great idea” stage. He lives in Charles City with his endlessly patient wife Vicki and their kids, Brynlee and Jaxon, who have already perfected the art of the eye‑roll every time Dad cracks another “dad joke.”
