Multiple Street Projects to Impact Traffic in New Hampton in Coming Weeks

The New Hampton Street Department is alerting residents to a number of upcoming projects.

Street Superintendent Kyle Anderson says Tank Masonry will begin work on Monday (07.06) on the city parking lot (Mikkelson Parking Lot) at the intersection of South Locust Avenue and East Spring Street. All uptown businesses and property owners should have received a written letter from the City so they can plan for alternate parking spots when work begins after the holiday weekend.  

City staff will be placing signs in the parking lot reminding citizens of the upcoming closure, starting at 10 PM on Sunday (07.05). The project is to be completed by no later than November 20th.

Also, the week of July 6th, Mehmert Tiling is to begin work on the culvert/street extension project that will join West Garfield Street with South Western Avenue, with completion also expected no later than November 20th.

Anderson advises, “Nothing is built overnight and these projects are no different.  The crews will be doing their best to keep the progress moving forward to get the jobs completed as soon as they can, the best they can.”  

Anderson also notes that, while not a city project, the Iowa DOT will be resurfacing HWY 24/ Main Street, approximately 400 feet east of Water Street to the east edge of the city limits near Poor Richards Restaurant.  This project will not close the entire road down, with one lane open during working hours.  

The DOT has informed the City that this project won’t take long to complete, but that is all subject to weather.  

The DOT has announced that project will start on Monday, July 13.
