Jackie Dwayne “Jack” Tynan, 80, of Charles City, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 19, 2026, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City surrounded by the love of his family.

A funeral service for Jack Tynan will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City with Pastor Patty Kellogg officiating.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home and continue one hour before the service at the funeral home on Wednesday.

Jackie Dwayne “Jack” Tynan was born on July 6, 1945, in Charles City, Iowa, to James and Lettie (Hermen) Tynan. He held a special distinction as he was the only one of his seven other siblings to be born at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City. When Jack was just ten years old, his mother, Lettie, passed away. During this time, Lettie’s niece, Nettie Wall, stepped in to help raise Jack, a kindness he never forgot.

Jack graduated from Charles City Community Schools in 1964 and later attended NIACC, where he studied “the trades” to become an electrician. As a teenager, he worked at the local bowling alley resetting pins by hand before beginning a long and successful career as an electrician. He spent 28 years working for Sara Lee in New Hampton and later retired from Pfizer in Charles City.

On June 29, 1968, Jack married the love of his life, Judy Joslin, at Bethany Alliance Church in Charles City. Together they had two children, Jack and Julie. They built a life centered on family, laughter, and love, sharing nearly 58 years of marriage.

A true jack of all trades, Jack could fix anything. He had a special love for classic cars, especially his treasured 1967 GTO. He was a member of the local Classic Car Club and enjoyed driving his GTO in the 4th of July Parade. Music was another great passion in his life. Whether playing guitar, sitting at the piano, singing karaoke, or sharing his talents at nursing homes and community centers, he found joy in bringing smiles to others through music. He especially enjoyed attending jam sessions at both the Charles City Arts Center and Community Center, and spending time Line Dancing with close friends.

Jack was known for his gift of storytelling. Whether he was reminiscing about his younger years, sharing an adventure, or teaching a life lesson, family and friends knew a story was likely to end with his signature line, “…the moral of the story is….” He loved passing along the lessons he had learned throughout his life and keeping family traditions alive. He also enjoyed telling jokes, especially his favorite Ole and Sven jokes, which never failed to bring laughter to those around him.

Of all the things Jack loved, he cherished his family the most. He treasured every opportunity to spend time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. One of his greatest joys was taking family vacations and showing them the beauty of the world, especially places he loved out West. He always wanted to make sure his family knew how deeply they were loved.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Judy Tynan of Charles City; his children, Jack (Kerri) Tynan and Julie Tynan, both of Charles City; his grandchildren, Jessica (Chris) Hoeft of Charles City, John (April) Anderson of Nashua, Nicholas (Lydia) Tynan of Charles City, Samantha Tynan of Cedar Rapids, Brooklyn (Cory) LaBarge of Charles City, and Abrianna Tynan of Cedar Rapids; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Madelynn, Hallee, and Liam Hoeft; Letty Anderson; and Hudson and Holden Tynan. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Jan (Tom) Cook; brother-in-law, Jim Haynes; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lettie (Hermen) Tynan; his mother’s niece, Nettie Wall, who helped raise him; his in-laws, Marian and Hollis Cross; his siblings, Leo (Barbara) Tynan, Rose (Wallace) Washburn, Jimmy Tynan, Mary Lou (Jack) Sprague, Dean Tynan, Beverly (Larry) Luck, and Juaneta (Wayne) Miller; sister-in-law, JoAnn Haynes; and brothers-in-law, Delbert Cross, Jerry Joslin, as well as many others who welcomed him into eternal life.

One Bible verse that family and friends often heard him recite was John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Jack will be remembered for his strong work ethic, generous heart, quick wit, love of music, endless stories, and unwavering devotion to his family. The lessons he taught, the memories he created, and the love he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
