City Hall Remodel in Charles City Impacts Access to Library, Walking Bridge

Ongoing work for the remodeling and renovation of City Hall in Charles City is impacting access to the Charles City Public Library, just to the east.

Construction associated with the some $5 million project also includes improvements between City Hall and the library. The latter stages of the project will see the finish of the parking lot to the north of both buildings along Clark Street. Other landscaping work in between the facilities also remains to be wrapped up.

Because of the construction, Library Director Annette Dean says, “Unfortunately lost access to our front door this (Tuesday) morning. People need to enter through the meeting room door.”

However, Dean adds that the library will be closed for each of the next three Saturdays of June 6th, 13th, and 20th, because there are private events in the meeting room. That leaves no other way for the public to access the library.

The Charles City Police Department says current work on the City Hall project has also closed the walking bridge to the south over the Cedar River and could  be closed for up to four weeks. CCPD says the sidewalk between the Library and City Hall/PD will remain closed for the foreseeable future, while the sidewalk under the bridge will remain open.
