Memorial Day Ceremony Monday in New Hampton, Charles City

Veterans organizations across the region will host Memorial Day programs this Monday (05.25), including American Legion Fae Stine Post 38 in New Hampton.

That’s Fae Stine Post Commander Brian Quirk, who says their ceremony begins at 10 AM Monday at the Veterans Memorial in front of the Chickasaw County Courthouse. This year’s speaker is 2nd Lieutenant Anton Dahm.

After the program, flag ceremonies will be held at Saint Mary’s, Calvary and New Hampton cemeteries, with a free will donation lunch to follow on the lawn in front of the courthouse, financially supported/sponsored by Security State Bank.

VFW Post #3914 will host the Memorial Day program in Charles City, with this year’s event coordinated by the American Legion, led by Post Commander Harold Kelleher.

The program at the Charles City VFW begins at 11 am Monday, including remarks from local officials, music from the Charles City High School band, prayer, flag presentations, and a time of remembrance honoring fallen service members. A free will donation meal and fellowship follow inside the VFW hall.

In advance of Memorial Day, volunteers placed flags on graves of fallen veterans Riverside, Calvary, Sunnyside and Riverton cemeteries in Charles City on Friday (05.22).
