A funeral service for Joan Viers will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City, Iowa.  Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service at the funeral home on Friday.

Joan Lee (Krinkie) Viers was born November 12, 1937, in Charles City, Iowa, the daughter of Donald and Alice (Heenan) Krinkie.  She attended the Charles City school system, graduating with the class of 1955.  Joan enjoyed every class reunion (with the exception of one) and will be missed.

On May 7, 1955, Joan was united in marriage to Kenneth E. Viers from Greene, Iowa.  The next two years were spent with Ken in Germany as he served in the United States Army.  While in Germany, Joan made lifelong friends and gave birth to their daughter, Donna Jo.

Joan’s love for music had its roots in the high school chorus and in the choir at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church.  She and Ken loved country music and formed a band called The Chanticleers.  She took every opportunity to take Ken dancing, and they danced the polka at the Moulin Rouge in Paris, France.

Joan was so proud to be on the frontline of computer development at Oliver/White Farm and used what she learned about computers throughout her life and formed VTS, Inc. with her son, Darren.  She helped her tax clients for 50 years.

Joan served as recording secretary for the bargaining unit of the UAW local 1315 which enabled her to attend several national conventions.  She loved politics and worked tirelessly on numerous campaigns throughout her life and spoke about the presidents she had listened to in person.

Living family members include her son, Darren Vries; daughter, Donna (Richard) Marvel; sister, Jean (Al) Moltz-Weber; brother, Fred Krinkie; her beloved 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter arriving in July; along with several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 43 years, Kenneth Viers; and brother, Lauren Krinkie.

Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home, (641) 228-2323, 1205 South Main Street, Charles City, Iowa 50616 is in charge of local arrangements.  Online condolences may be left on the Tribute Wall for the family at www.hauserfh.com.

Chris Berg

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City, which basically means he’s been corn‑fed and radio‑bred since day one. As a kid, he was always caught singing along to the radio — and while he’ll tell you he’s great at karaoke, let’s just say the audience’s ears often file a noise complaint. When he’s not busy butchering ‘80s power ballads, Chris enjoys starting overly ambitious home projects that rarely make it past the “great idea” stage. He lives in Charles City with his endlessly patient wife Vicki and their kids, Brynlee and Jaxon, who have already perfected the art of the eye‑roll every time Dad cracks another “dad joke.”
