Joann Vandeventer, 55, of Charles City

Joann Vandeventer, 55, of Charles City, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2020, at the MercyOne New Hampton Medical Center in New Hampton.
A memorial service to celebrate her life alongside her husband, Raymond, will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at The Bridge Church in Charles City. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Joann was the baby of her family, born to Robert and Dorothy King on August 2nd, 1965. She graduated from Charles City in the class of 1984. She loved children and took a nanny job out in Staten Island for a while. She loved to tell stories of her time out there.
In October of 1992 she married Raymond C. Vandeventer Jr. On her 28th birthday they were blessed with a baby girl, Bobbie. Her daughter’s friends also grew to think of her as “mom” as time went on. Watching movies and playing games with them all the way through high school, she was known for making the best frozen pizzas.
She enjoyed going to auctions and flea markets with Ray and meeting new people. There was never a person she didn’t want to be friends with. Her laugh and smile were what made her, her.
She was so excited when her daughter moved back to Charles City to spend time with her Grandson, and she was looking forward to her second grandchild when she passed away.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents. Since her passing in 2020, her sisters, Carol Beck and Susan Clark have also joined her in heaven, and now her loving husband Ray has joined her side.
Surviving family members include her daughter, Bobbie Wessling, and her grandsons, Isaiah and Killian Wessling. Also, her brothers, Chuck (Joann) King and Dale (Doris) King, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
