Jeannine Mills, 85, of Charles City

Jeannine Mills, 85, lifetime resident of Charles City, passed away peacefully Friday, April 17, 2026, at the Floyd County Medical Center.

A funeral service for Jeannine Mills will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City with Pastor Don Preston officiating.  Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City and continue one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Our Brother’s Keeper and/or Trinity United Methodist Church.

Jeannine was born to Brown and Leone Martin on June 18, 1940, in Charles City, Iowa.  She graduated from Charles City High School in 1958.  She attended Coe College and the University of Northern Iowa, graduating in 1962 with a degree in Elementary Education.

Jeannine married Gary Mills August 5, 1961. They made their home in Cedar Falls until 1963 when they moved back to Charles City and started Mills Refrigeration out of their garage.  She taught second grade at Washington Elementary for one year and then transitioned to a long career of being an at home mom, daycare provider, piano teacher and church organist.

Jeannine had many hobbies.  She loved to read, sew, quilt, cross stitch, solve crossword puzzles and play cards.  She was a listening ear to many and was passionate about her involvement in Our Brother’s Keeper at Trinity United Methodist Church.  She was an active member and past president of P.E.O. Chapter CY.  Jeannine shared her musical gifts with the community in many capacities throughout her lifetime.

Jeannine is survived by her children: Linda (Bill) Nichols, Michael Mills, Scott (Kelli) Mills, Steve (Sally) Mills, and Robin Kim (Chris Turner); grandchildren: Richard (Julia) Nichols, Adaline, Eliza and Alaina, Robert (Olivia) Nichols, Liam, Chip and Isla,  Reid (Emily) Nichols, Brittany (Cassie) Wheeler, Tyler Kuhn, Erika Mills, Paige Mills and Emilie Mills; cousin, Susie Hummel; sisters-in-law: Eleanor Waid and Shirley Krutsinger; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Mills, and her parents, Brown and Leone Martin.

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City, which basically means he’s been corn‑fed and radio‑bred since day one. As a kid, he was always caught singing along to the radio — and while he’ll tell you he’s great at karaoke, let’s just say the audience’s ears often file a noise complaint. When he’s not busy butchering ‘80s power ballads, Chris enjoys starting overly ambitious home projects that rarely make it past the “great idea” stage. He lives in Charles City with his endlessly patient wife Vicki and their kids, Brynlee and Jaxon, who have already perfected the art of the eye‑roll every time Dad cracks another “dad joke.”
