U.S. Sen. Grassley Announces $64 Million to Replace Iowa Bridges, Includes Almost 20 in North/Northeast Iowa

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) has announced Iowa will receive over $64 million in federal aid from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to help replace 67 bridges and culverts in poor condition across Iowa, including almost 20 projects in north/northeast Iowa.

Grassley says the state’s varied forms of motorized transportation contribute to the wear-and-tear on Iowa bridges.

The Iowa DOT will receive almost $35 million through the “Better Bridges Brighter Opportunity” program to replace two bridges that are State-owned, 28 county-owned and three city-owned. Seven projects are in northeast Iowa, with two each in Chickasaw, Mitchell, and Bremer counties, and one in Allamakee County.

The Iowa DOT was awarded just over $30 million through the “Bridges to Prosperity” program to replace three bridges that are state-owned, 27 are county-owned, and four are city-owned. A dozen projects are in north Iowa, including two in Floyd County, one each in Howard, Black Hawk, Buchanan, Worth and Kossuth counties; plus three in Hancock County.

All bridges being replaced are rated in poor condition.
