Charles City VFW Canteen Still Closed, But Fish Fries, Hall Rental Continue 

In January, the Charles City VFW shut down its canteen due to financial struggles.

While there’s no timetable for the bar to re-open, Post Commander Denny Hull says they still loan out medical equipment and the VFW hall remains available for events like wedding receptions and graduation parties.

Hull says they’ll also prepare for their Memorial Day program and putting flags out on the graves of veterans that holiday weekend.

With the military conflict in Iran, Hull also encourages support of the men and women who serve the country.

Hull hopes the canteen/bar can reopen down the road, with monetary donations from the public welcome by calling 641-220-1955.

The VFW Friday night fish fries also continue, with dine-in or carryout meals available from 4:30 to 7 pm every Friday night during Lent. Learn more at Charles City VFW on Facebook.
