KCHA’s Hoefer Honored for Distinguished Service by IFCA

KCHA’s Erik Hoefer was honored over the weekend at the  Iowa Football Coaches Association (IFCA) awards banquet.

Hoefer, “The Voice” of Charles City High School sports on KCHA for over 15 years, received the IFCA “Ken WInkler Distinguished Service Award,” which was presented by Comets Head Football Coach Brian Bjorklund on Saturday (02.28).

Bjorklund nominated Hoefer for his “Countless good deeds he does for the Charles City community with his various roles such as being play-by-play announcer on the radio, public address announcer, teacher, coach, father, husband, lay minister for Messiah Lutheran, foster parent, and many other caring deeds he does. He’s an excellent representative of our community and is unwavering in his absolute resolve towards being positive.”

Hoefer says of the honor, “To begin, All Glory Be to God! I love Charles City! I student-taught here as a Luther College student in the fall of 1989 and totally fell in love with this community and the people who live here. I have been blessed to broadcast the Comets on KCHA, and I am thankful for the support and the opportunities KCHA has given me over these many years. Being the Voice of the Comets is the best! A total honor and privilege. Win or lose, I will always be a Comet fan!”

He adds, “As for Charles City, this is a phenomenal community, and my family and I love living here. Our public schools are amazing, and serving as a public school teacher in this place brings joy that is hard to put into words.”

IFCA sought nominations for candidates “who have contributed many years of service to the community or any civilian who supports football. Example: bus drivers, custodians, doctors, timers, chain crews, car parkers, trainers, radio and TV broadcasters and secretaries.”
