Charles City School Board Reviews Report on Failed Bond

The Charles City School Board reviewed its biggest issue of 2025 during their first meeting of 2026  Monday (01.12) night.

The Board received a report by the Central Rivers Area Education Agency (AEA) on the $30 million bond measure that failed in November.

Superintendent Brian Burnight said “Community Perception Around the Bond” was a survey of NO Voters.

Burnight said respondents were also allowed to fill in the blank for “other” reasons they voted against the bond.

Burnight said the AEA survey also sought feedback on how voters got their information on the bond.

In an effort to better educate voters in the future, Burnight said he’d like to see the School Board take their message out into the district.

Had the bond passed, it would’ve paid for sweeping improvements and upgrades to Charles City High School, built over 65 years ago.
