North/Northeast Iowa Weather, Road Conditions Improve, I-35 Back Open

Road conditions continue to improve as the weather rebounds from the blizzard that made travel hazardous across north central and northeast Iowa Sunday (12.28) afternoon into Monday (12.29) morning.
The winter storm forced the closure of Interstate 35 from Ames, IA, to Albert Lea, Minnesota, at about 4 pm Sunday. The highway was reopened to motorists at about 2:30 pm Monday. Still, the Iowa DOT is advising travelers to use extreme caution on partially snow and ice-covered roads with scattered snowpacks. Allow plenty of distance between vehicles and take it slower.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Rod Donovan says things should see some thawing out on Tuesday (12.30).
The forecast calls for high temps around 32 degrees on Tuesday and 28 by mid-morning Wednesday (12.31) before temps gradually fall to around 19 by 5 pm. The new year opens Thursday with a high of just 16, but will warm to about 25 on Saturday and 32 on Sunday.
