Updated (again): Blizzard Warnings Issued for Parts of Northern Iowa as Dangerous Winter Storm Intensifies

The National Weather Service has issued Blizzard Warnings for portions of northern Iowa as a potent winter storm is expected to bring hazardous travel conditions from Sunday into Monday morning.
A Blizzard Warning is in effect from mid-morning Sunday through Monday morning for Cerro Gordo, Worth, Chickasaw, Floyd, Howard, and Mitchell counties.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Franklin, Butler, Bremer, Fayette, and Winneshiek counties.
Forecasters say rain Sunday morning will transition to a wintry mix and then snow from west to east through the afternoon, with snow expected across all areas by Sunday evening. Snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches are possible in blizzard warning areas, accompanied by strong northwest winds gusting up to 45 miles per hour.
The combination of falling and blowing snow is expected to produce blizzard conditions, particularly in open and rural areas, with visibility dropping below one-quarter mile at times. Temperatures are also expected to fall rapidly Sunday, leading to a flash freeze of standing water and untreated road surfaces.
Travel conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly, becoming slippery to treacherous, and in some locations dangerous or nearly impossible, especially Sunday evening into Monday morning. Officials recommend that travel be limited to emergencies only in areas under a Blizzard Warning.
Residents are urged to monitor forecast updates, check road conditions before traveling, and prepare for dangerous winter weather impacts.
