Iowa Traffic Fatalities Could Fall Short of 300 in 2025, Would Be First Time in 100 Years
With about 45 days left in 2025, the number of traffic fatalities on Iowa’s roads could reach a level not seen in 100 years.
As of Wednesday (11.12), the fatality count from the Iowa DOT stood at 234, an encouraging number for north Iowa-based Iowa State Patrol Trooper Tom Williams.
Williams says many fatalities could be averted by drivers making safe choices.
Williams says it takes a joint effort to lower the fatality count.
Williams adds that fewer fatalities also means fewer times he has to carry out the toughest part of his job.
Williams says Iowa’s new hands-free law will also help keep future fatalities down and reminds drivers that warnings for violations continue through the end of the year. But, starting January 1st, law enforcement will begin issuing tickets, with fines of $100.
***As of Friday, November 14, the number of traffic fatalities in Iowa for 2025 had risen to 238
