Robert “Bob” Johnson, 86, of Charles City

Robert “Bob” Johnson, age 86, of Charles City, Iowa, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was born on April 23, 1939, to LeRoy and Mina Johnson in Rose Creek, Minnesota.

Over the years, Bob held many jobs and took pride in every one of them. He worked alongside his brother-in-law, Elmo Jahr, farming and milking cows in his early years. He delivered gas through Standard Oil, spent time at Equality Die Cast in several roles, drove a taxi part-time, and later worked at Grain Millers where he filled many positions with dedication and skill. His final and favorite title, though, was “Papa.” Nothing brought him more joy than being a full-time grandpa, sharing his love, laughter, and wisdom with his family.

Bob lived in several communities throughout his life — from Rose Creek to near the family farm outside Mona, Iowa to Albert Lea and Winona, Minnesota, and finally Charles City, Iowa. Everywhere he went, he built friendships and left behind stories of generosity, loyalty, and strength.

Bob’s hobbies centered around the outdoors. He hunted deer and turkey, and he enjoyed fishing, especially the family trips to Canada. Bob relished spending time with his wife Patti most of all, but he was also proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and he never missed a chance to brag about them.

He is survived by his wife, Patti; his children, Cliff (Cathy) Johnson, Shari Nagy, Bruce (Eileen) Johnson, Crystal Egge, and Vicki (Chris) Bergeson; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Mina Johnson; his brothers, David and Lynn Johnson; his sisters, Linda Garvey and Vivian Johnson; his son, Wesley Walter Johnson; and unofficial son-in-law, Robert “Rob” Alland.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Mona Lutheran Church in Mona, Iowa.

Visitation is scheduled from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., with the service to follow from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Scott Meyer.

Interment will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Guests are invited to stay for coffee and desserts from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Bob will be remembered as a man of integrity, generosity, and unmatched work ethic — a true example of strength with a heart of gold.

Chris Berg

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City, which basically means he’s been corn‑fed and radio‑bred since day one. As a kid, he was always caught singing along to the radio — and while he’ll tell you he’s great at karaoke, let’s just say the audience’s ears often file a noise complaint. When he’s not busy butchering ‘80s power ballads, Chris enjoys starting overly ambitious home projects that rarely make it past the “great idea” stage. He lives in Charles City with his endlessly patient wife Vicki and their kids, Brynlee and Jaxon, who have already perfected the art of the eye‑roll every time Dad cracks another “dad joke.”
