Charles City School Board Candidates Weigh in on Issues During Forum

Four candidates for three seats up for election on the Charles City School Board participated in a Candidate Forum Thursday (10.30) night at the Community Center in Charles City.

Hosted by the Charles City Chamber of Commerce, the forum featured incumbents David Schrodt, Kathryn Fox and Josh Mack, all seeking re-election, plus challenger Steve Boucher.

The biggest topic addressed by the candidates is the $30 million bond referendum that would largely go towards improvements, renovations and some new construction at Charles City High School. But what if the bond does not pass on Election Day Tuesday (11.04).

Fox says discussions of upgrading the 65-year-old building will continue.

Mack says reworking a bond measure for another try is possible.

Schrodt says, if the bond fails, the final vote may determine the next direction to take.

Boucher says he would dig deeper before putting another bond up for vote.

Passage of the bond requires a 60% supermajority YES vote.
