Avenue of the Saints Microsurfacing Near Charles City Draws Attention of Floyd County Officials

The road paving process of “micro-surfacing” in the Charles City area has drawn the attention of Floyd County officials.
That’s Supervisor Gloria Carr during last Tuesday’s (10.28) Board of Supervisors meeting addressing the issue with County Engineer Adam Miller, who says he’s also heard the complaints, but also advised patience for the surface to improve.
Pete Hjelmstad with the Iowa DOT’s Mason City District office explained to KCHA/KCZE earlier this month micro-surfacing’s rough feel on the road.
Hjelmstad added that micro-surfacing is not a brand new approach to paving a highway.
The micro-surfaced stretch of Highway 218/27/18 runs from the Highway 14 intersection to about five miles southeast of Charles City.
