Spookwalk School, Senior Living Contest Winners Announced Ahead of Monday’s (10.27) Milestone Event

The annual “Spookwalk” in Charles City hits a milestone in 2025.
That’s Kamryn Kronschnabel, who says they’ll honor that anniversary with this year’s theme of “Spookwalk Time Machine. “
The local Halloween tradition, organized by Main Street Charles City, is for children up through sixth grade along with their families and is free to attend from 4:30 to 6:30 pm, with some 30 decorated treat stations along the trail through Riverfront Park.
Due to the City Hall construction, the line up for the Spookwalk will start in the normal spot near First Baptist Church, but will follow the riverwalk under the walking bridge back towards Hot Shots. The parking lot by Hot Shots will be temporarily closed for safety during the event.
A special early bird session for kids with sensory or crowd issues is also available at 4 pm, but kids must pre-registered by contacting Main Street Charles City by noon Monday (10.27). Otherwise, kids will go through with the general public at 4:30 pm.
In addition to candy and treats from display participants, First Baptist Church will be offering free hot dogs and hot chocolate while supplies last.
In case of inclement weather, the Spookwalk event may be moved to Wednesday, Oct. 29th.
Watch for updates at Main Street Charles City on Facebook or call the office before 4:30 pm Monday at (641) 228-2335.
As a buildup to Spookwalk, preschool through second graders had the opportunity to take part in a Spookwalk Coloring Contest this month at school. One winner from each grade level was selected, and received a special “Budge Pass” to jump to the head of the line Monday.
Preschool winner is Markus from St. John Preschool, with kindergarten winner Theo from Washington Elementary, first-grade winner Lucas from I.C. School, and second-grade winner Oaklyn from Lincoln Elementary.
A Spookwalk Candy Jar Guessing Contest was also held for second and third graders, won by Kinnick from Lincoln who guessed within two (156) and Granger from I.C. School who also came within two (329).
The senior living and nursing facilities in Charles City also got to enjoy a little Spookwalk fun by participating in the Candy Jar Guess. Joyce Russell from Apple Valley Place missed by only one (126); Dominique Heard took the Riverside Assisted Living honors (and the candy jar) with the closest guess to 119; the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home winner was JoEllen Murray, also within one (126); while Craig Lynch took home honors and the 126-piece candy jar at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home .
