New Horizons Chamber Issues Scam Alert, Reminder Scarecrow Contest Voting Ends Wednesday (10.22)

Voting for the 4th annual New Horizons Chamber Scarecrow Contest in New Hampton ends at 5 pm Wednesday (10.22).
That’s Chamber Director Liz Zweibohmer, who says voting can be done on the New Horizons Chamber Facebook page.
Zweibohmer says the winner gets a traveling trophy, $25 in Chamber Bonus Bucks and bragging rights.
While the scarecrow contest is fun and games, Zweibohmer is also alerting residents to a recent scam that could have scary results.

**CHICKASAW COUNTY SCAM ALERT**
We have been made aware of a widespread phishing attack in Chickasaw County.
If you receive an email or evite, EVEN IF IT IS FROM SOMEONE YOU KNOW, offering you an invite to a meeting or something similar that requires you to download a file, DON’T CLICK ON IT. Especially if you were not expecting any email from this person. If you think it IS actually a legit email from that person, call them and check before clicking on the link and downloading anything.
If you have already received one of these emails and accidentally clicked on something and downloaded and/or opened it contact your local IT person and make them aware of it immediately.
Your computer or device could possibly have surveillance software installed on it and all of your passwords, data and sensitive information could very well be compromised.
This has already occurred with other businesses and residences in the area and it’s spreading quickly. Please help spread the word.
