Trial Dates Set After Charles City Women Plead Not Guilty to Felony Child Endangerment

Trial dates have been set for two Charles City women after they pleaded not guilty to felony child endangerment charges.

Charles City Police arrested 33-year-old Stephanie Henigan and 31-year-old Ariana Henigan on August 29th, with each charged two counts of child endangerment causing bodily injury, Class D felonies, and two counts of aggravated misdemeanor child endangerment.

According to criminal complaints, both women are accused of using a PS4 cord and/or clothes hanger to “whoop” the children on multiple occasions between May and August. CCPD says Stephanie and Ariana Henigan also failed to supply the children with adequate food, in some cases limiting the two children to sharing one pack of noodles per day.

The women also allegedly denied the children food despite having other food in the home, as well as when preparing meals for themselves, going out for free popcorn, and entertaining strangers for money to use towards buying food.

Investigators say a physician diagnosed both children with severe protein malnutrition and being only in the sixth or seventh percentile for height and weight at their given age.

Last week, both Stephanie and Ariana Henigan entered not guilty pleas and waived their rights to speedy trials, which, on Wednesday (10.01), were scheduled for November 20th in Floyd County District Court.

The two women were originally held in the Floyd County Jail with bail set for each at $14,000 cash or 10% acceptable. Both are free awaiting trial after each posted bail of $1,400.

Ariana Henigan is also facing one count of illegal drug possession. Court records show that CCPD charged her with possession of marijuana on September 9th after a small amount of marijuana was found in her residence six days earlier.  Henigan entered a not guilty plea to that charge on Friday (10.03) and is also slated for trial on November 20th.
