At present, two positions on the New Hampton City Council are lacking for candidates come this November’s election.
Last Thursday (09.18) was the deadline for candidates to file to run for office. New Hampton council seats up for election on November 4th include those held by Kalista Porath and Mindy Humpal, but neither filed to run for re-election.
Still, Mayor Steve Geerts says they’ll need to fill those seats.
One councilwoman who has filed to run in November is Kerstin Schwickerath, who was appointed to the council in February after the resignation of Katie Fisher.
Geerts says Schwickerath has been a welcome addition.
Geerts says if you’re a New Hampton resident in the second or fourth ward willing to speak your mind, can listen, and who wants to help shape the direction of the city, reach out to the City Clerk’s office for more information on the open Council seats.
Since the filing deadline for candidacy papers has passed, anyone seeking office will have to mount a write-in campaign.
